CAGE SIT RULES!!!!!

We are going to do another cage sit really soon!
Here are the rules!!!

• Can only eat fruits and veggies
• Use iPods but can't use cell phones and we cannot use chargers
• 24 hours
• 5x5 ft cage dimensions
• 2 blankets each (use ONLY after 9:00pm)
• No laptops... so we can't update during the cage sit or see any new donations, so SURPRISE US!!
• Cameras are ok to use!!
• 4 bathroom breaks per person
• Visiters are VERY welcome (so if you know anybody in South Bend, tell them to let us know so we can plan accordingly)
• No pillows (may use blankets as pillows but only after 9:00pm)
• No headphones
• No internet/ wifi
• 2 water bottles per person... no water flavoring
• no spoons, forks or knives
• 1 trash bag for the whole thing
• no lights

THE APE ASSIGNMENT!!
This week we would like you to...

• Educate your friends and family about what is going on behind the scenes. Lots of people don't know what is going on behind the scenes in research labs, and we need to spread the word!
• You could do this by:
• Setting your facebook status as "Chimps are our closest relatives, with 98.9% of our DNA. They can feel sad, grief & pain. Yet we use them as test dummies for vaccines, rip babies from moms just after birth, and this doesn't help us! They don't react to disease like we do and it kills them. I know no one would want to die this way and being chimps doesn't make it fair. Make this your status for a day if you dont want to live 50 yrs in a 5 ft cage."
• Make it your signature for emails, texts, fb messages, etc. (not the whole thing of course, but maybe your favorite part!)
• Just flat out telling people! (Always a good method)

Well maybe this wasnt the shortest fun "friday" ever... but that's okay! I ended up writing way mroe than i thought i would! :)
You may be wondering why i have quotes around the word friday! Well it's because i love doing these fun fridays, but i never have time on actual fridays! so i changed the name to fun "fridays" because then i can write it on anyday! for example, today! which is Saturday! :)

Fun Friday, Good Friday, EARTH DAY!!!

Happy Friday, blog followers :) Also, happy Good Friday to those of you who celebrate it! And we can't forget, HAPPY EARTH DAY! :) So today, I think we'll get started with some Fun Fridays. By the way, we changed them up a little... have fun!

Lots of good news right now. We're over half way to migrating our new chimp (we don't know who yet). It's Earth Day! So lots of people will be planting trees (lets end deforestation ;)) and doing other good things for our planet, this is the only one we have! (and the only planet with chimps :))


REMEMBER WHAT YOU'RE FIGHTING FOR!

You are fighting for a chimp like him, you are fighting to migrate a chimp just like him to a sanctuary so he can be happy, and not have to think about his past. It really is an AMAZING cause.

The Ape Assignment(which isn't so Ape-associated this week...)

Since its EARTH WEEK...try to do all of these things to help our planet!

1. RECYCLE! there is no need for plastic and paper to be filling up the landfills!
2. PLANT A TREE! this may sound like a big deal, but planting a tree is a great thing for the environment and may accent that back corner in you lawn quite well... (;
3. SAVE WATER! saving water is a very simple task! You can take shorter showers, use less water when you are doing the dishes, and much much MORE.
4. SAVE ELECTRICITY! make sure to turn off all of the lights when leaving the room!
5. GO VEGETARIAN! meat is really  not beneficial to the planet! already vegetarian?? then try vegan! already vegan?? keep up the good work, the animals thank you!!

The BIG QUESTION:

Do you only focus on helping chimps, or do you try to help all the abused animals? And don't feel bad if you only help chimps, a lot of people don't do anything for the abused animals out in the world, therefore, you are doing more than most!

Well... We have... some news

Well, we have fantastic news. Really, really amazing news. Hunter, well, he's been migrated to Florida.
Hunter is in Florida, in the Save the Chimps Sanctuary!!!
Hunter, is finally happy!! He's with so many other chimps, and he's happy!! Hunter, is in the Save the Chimps Sanctuary!! I'm sorry, I'm being repetitive, but I'm very happy for Hunter!
But, this also means, Olivia and I have to choose another chimp to migrate, FOR THE 3RD TIME. And, the Arcus Foundation will not match our funds raised so far, so we are changing the goal back, and we will keep fundraising for the chimp we are going to migrate. We aren't sure what chimp we are going migrate, and we will let you know as soon as possible
which chimp we choose. This chimp will probably be around the same age as Hunter.

When I first recieved this email, all I could see was that now, we couldn't migrate Hunter. But the more I thought about it, I realized, Hunter is now happy, in a sanctuary, with many other chimps. Which was the over all goal. So our goal was reached, Hunter is now in Florida, and all the money we raised for him will get to go towards migrating another chimp, which is still an amazing cause.

I am determined to take the good out of this, even though I'm kind of sad. This is really is amazing that Hunter is now in a sanctuary.

Wow. It doesn't feel real.

Hi guys! I can't believe it, but I have some amazing news to tell you. We raised $550 from the fundraiser. That puts us at $1250. And thanks to the Arcus Foundation's matching grant, that means that Hunter is getting migrated. He's going to Florida!!!!! :') I'm so happy! It doesn't feel real! I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. I'm actually going to miss it all. Maybe another chimp will come in the near future. I'll check out who else needs help in Hunter's group. I'm not making promises or anything about the chimps, but I'm definitely not going to stop helping animals. I want ALL animal abuse to end, and I'm going to help that happen. I'm not really sure what this all means for our blog, but I want to continue it and I'm guessing Aubrey does, too. Not to mention I'm gonna be really really sad if I never get to do another cage sit. Anyway, I want to thank all of our loyal followers! And everyone who donated and who came out to support us today! And to all of the wonderful new people I've met on this mission, you're great. There are some amazing  people in the world and I'm lucky enough to know a lot of them. I'll keep you guys posted. Don't stop helping the animals! Do good things people!

Fun Friday #5, April Fools Day!

Hey guys!
Its Friday, April 1, which means APRIL FOOLS DAY!  So what did you guys do for April Fools?

Lighten up!

The fundraiser is tomorrow, and I'm hoping it will be a huge success! (Wish us luck!) Tomorrow, I will post a complete list of donations for the raffle/silent auction/ food tables. We have all sorts of stuff!! We are hoping to raise a good portion of the money to migrate Hunter!

Today, Olivia and I went donation seeking in downtown South Bend. We went to many stores, and with some luck, we went home with some cool things for our raffle in our upcoming fundraiser!! The Cage Sit

It's over! It's over! Olivia and I (Aubrey) sat in a 5x5 cage for 24 hours! Thank you for spreading the word and helping us raise money for Hunter!! We have $100 in off-line pledges that we will add to the blog. Thank you everyone from UPS Elkhart for donating, and thank you everyone from Konica Minolta at Innovation Park for donating!!
About the cage sit:

We understand so much more about what the chimps are going through. We started going crazy about the 7 hour point, until we had some human contact when my mom stopped by. To think that chimps spend their entire lives in cages is unbelievable. The 1.3% difference is enough to ruin their lives FOREVER. GET CHIMPS OUT OF LABS. After doing this, we realize that chimps have it worse than we had ever imagined. This was an amazing experience.

The world of chimp activism can be depressing sometimes, so I have decided to start a segment I would like to call Fun Fridays. I am winging it today. You can now expect an update every Friday from me. (mwahaha, I WILL keep you all entertained and spreading the blog around). This first part is good news in the world of chimps for the week. I shall call it... hmm...

Save the Chimps's matching grant from the Arcus Foundation has raised $679,718.44. YAY!!!

APE ASSIGNMENT

The Ape Assignment will be a small, simple way that you or others can make the world a better place for apes. This week's assignment will be helping the orangutans. (if you don't already) Next time you are out shopping, check to see if the product is made with palm oil. If it is, it was most likely harvested from an orangutan's home. This is bad and the main reason they are in danger from human activity. You will probably be surprised about how many things contain palm oil. If you already boycott palm oil, then tell your friends. If you are like me and don't (yet) then we can both try it for a week. I will check back in next Friday and see how it went. Feel free to leave your experiences below in the comments :)

This week's big question is:

Why do you think companies (**cough cough, Career Builder**) continue to use chimps and other apes in ads, even though they know that it is wrong and activists petition them to stop? Do you think Career Builder will show their chimp ad in the Super Bowl, even though people complain? What have you done to stop them? Do you have any other ideas to help?

Updates... (2)

Hey guys! I haven't blogged in a while. Have you been telling your friends to click the button and follow the blog? Haha, if not, I hope you do!!!

Updates on Hunter: As you can see from the first giving widget, we are already 7% to the goal, in the first    month! I personally think this is amazing :). Thanks to all that have helped and will help in the future. If you want to donate, click the first giving button! Also, you can forward the link and tell all of your friends.

Updates on the fundraiser: Not much has happened with it lately. Aubrey and I are drinking plenty of  Vitamin Water for bowling. Note: I am not endorsing Vitamin Water (although I personally love it) but if the
company just so HAPPENS to want to donate after this free, impromptu mentioning, I wouldn't mind (haha).

Since I haven't posted in a while, I decided to give you a random list of people I would like to meet. There are only four. If you don't want to know and you only read this for Hunter updates then feel free to stop reading now. (The list is chimp related of course :)).

I went to the fabric store today with Aubrey. As soon as we walked in, the lady goes,"What are you selling?" we said we were just wondering about donations, explained about STC and asked if she would donate some fleece. She said "No! Not now! It's prime time for selling fleece!" We thanked her and walked out. :( I was really bummed. Well, we will have to come back during summer when it isn't "prime time." I guess a lot of people aren't as sad for the chimps as the rest of us are. We'll just have to keep asking around :( Oh well...

Updates...

Ok, so we talked to Pastor Lauren and she gave us three dates that could work. The fundraiser will most likely be held on April 2, so we can get any donations in before the Arcus Foundation's matching grant ends on April 30. Also, I want to get some blankets for the New Mexico chimps, so I'll keep you guys posted on that! Thank you for your donations and support. Pant-Hoots!

Scrappy already has a sponsor named Sophie raising money for him. At the same time, this is great because she has more than $1,000 for him and he will be moved to Florida really soon!!!! Big Pant-Hoot to Sophie!!! Thanks for helping him :)

He is 13, so I can relate to him on the age level and he even pushes his lip out; pouting like a human teenager would haha!
